Mia woke with a massive headache. She’d never had a hangover like this before. She did her morning cat stretches and slid out of bed, not wanting to wake Scott.

He looked so peaceful sleeping; the pillow curled up in his arms.

She went into the bathroom and was promptly reminded of the night before when she spotted her ruined petticoat on the floor.

Antibiotics and painkillers sat beside the sink.

Just another reminder.

She sat on the edge of the tub and tried to recall what’d happened exactly. She’d make the bitch pay if she showed her face on the boat. All she could remember was her dark hair.

Mia took one of each pill and washed her face. She was afraid of the pain to her head, so she skipped the shower. She dressed in capris and a light-colored top, trying to be quiet. She didn’t want to wake Scott.

She put on the barest of makeup and gently pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail, hiding the bald spot the best she could.

Mia went to check her phone, but it wouldn’t turn on.

Damn it!

She’d had it in her bra at the party. The device had gone into the pool with her.

I wonder if putting it in a bag of rice would do the trick?

I’ll ask the front desk if room service could bring me a bag of uncooked rice.

She set it on the counter, hoping after a few hours the inside would dry and it might turn back on. It was supposed to be water-resistant but she doubted that included a trip in a pool.

She slipped into the bedroom and glanced at the clock. Nine a.m. She needed to get out of the penthouse for a while. Mia put on her light blue sandals, and grabbed her purse, then slipped out the door.

She stepped off the elevator to a lobby teaming with Razor’s Edge fans getting ready to head over to the shipping dock.

There was a little restaurant across the lobby, and she was starving. She really didn’t want to walk through the large crowd to get to the restaurant and was grateful for the tables and chairs that were associated with the restaurant, to her left.

She headed for the glass doors.

She’d barely selected a table when a server came to her. Mia ordered a glass of orange juice, pancakes, and eggs. She wished her phone was working.

I should’ve left Scott a note.

While she ate, she people-watched. The girls gathering in the lobby were an interesting bunch. They were all sizes, ages, and nationalities.

A server, but not hers, stepped up to the table, a piece of paper in his hand.

“Miss? I was asked to give you this.”

Mia took it and opened it as he walked away. The handwriting was neat. It wasn’t obviously feminine or masculine. The words caused her stomach to knot, and shot apprehension down her spine.

“You should know, what happened last night was just the beginning. When the rest of the boat finds out about you, they’ll all be trying to crack your skull open.
